BSP Treeathlon Logo

The first Barton Springs Pool Treeathlon will be a very, very short and fun “treeathlon” to raise “fun” and funds for purchasing and maintaining trees at Barton Springs Pool.  Beginning at 10am, participants will swim ACROSS Barton Springs Pool, bike a short loop through Zilker Park to the Zilker Christmas Tree area, and then run a short course around the Polo Fields to finish at the Polo picnic tables in the trees.  Not an entirely serious athletic endeavor, the Tree-athlon will be a fun way to celebrate Barton Springs Pool, raise money for a pool-related project, and maybe bring back some of the “Keep Austin Weird” vibe.

Presented by Friends of Barton Springs Pool in cooperation with Austin Parks Foundation, the Treeathlon will raise fun and tax deductible funds for purchasing and maintaining trees for Barton Springs Pool and the surrounding area.  Please join us in celebrating and supporting Barton Springs Pool with the Treeathlon.

Arrive Early to Allow Time to Prepare Before Start: With the event starting at 10 am, participants need to arrive early enough to get ready before the 9:30 am Pre-Event Meeting.  Please allow sufficient time to park your car at the Polo Field parking area.  You should also allow time to pick up your race packet (race numbers, t-shirt, etc.) at the registration table at the Polo Field parking area, as well as complete your USA Triathlon membership application any pay any required USAT license fee (see below). Finally, allow time to check your bike and get “body marked” at the T1 bike transition area by the pool. The parking, packet pickup, USA Triathlon membership application, bike check and body marking should be completed by 9:30 am, when we will close the transition areas and have our Pre-Event meeting outside the Pool area on the north side.  You are strongly encouraged to arrive between 8 and 8:45 am.  Additional “must read” details are posted at http://friendsofbartonspringspool.org/?page_id=731. Also, please review the Treeathon map posted at http://friendsofbartonspringspool.org/?p=469 to understand where to go for parking, packet pickup, bike storage at the T1 bike transition area, as well as the course map and finish line and party area.

Packet Pickup:  On Saturday morning, a table will be located near the Polo Field parking area for sign in, late registration, distribution of race packets (race numbers, t-shirt, etc.), and USA Triathlon membership application and payment.

Treeathlon Insurance:  Before participating in the Treeathlon, every participant is required to be a member of USA Triathlon and to present a photo IDNO PHOTO ID, NO RACE, NO EXCEPTIONS. If you did not pay for the USAT license at the registration site, you will be required to present a photo ID and pay the USAT license fee ($10 for adults, and $5 for kids under 18) by either cash or check. You will also be required to sign the USAT Membership application.  The USA Triathlon application/payment requirements will be handled at the Polo Field parking area.

Registration fees: $25 for early registration, and $30 beginning April 8 through race day.  If you’re not already registered with the USA Triathlon, you’ll need to purchase a $10 single-day triathlon license at the online registration site (below) or at the day of the event.  At registration, please specify your t-shirt size, though size availability will be allocated on a priority/availability basis.

Benefits: Participants will not only support the purchase and maintenance of trees at Barton Springs Pool, but will also receive an official BSP Treeathlon t-shirt, hear the percussion sounds of Rhythmic Force, and enjoy some cool brews and other food and refreshments from TacoDeli, Live Oak Brewing Co., St. Arnold Brewing Co., Maine Root, and others.  Additional benefits include a one year membership with Friends of Barton Springs Pool, event photography services by Kreutz Photography, and gift certificates and raffle prizes from 1379 Family Sports Shop, Threadgills, Austin Java, and Uncle Billy’s.

We Thank Our Sponsors and Supporters:

First off, special thanks to Jon “Papa” Grant for his wonderful work in preparing the Treeathlon logo showing the salamanders in their action triathlete poses.  Way cute!

We’ve also received tons of organizational help from Dan Carroll with High Five Events which we appreciate beyond words.   Michelle Graham with Bounce Events has also been very helpful with guidance in our promotional efforts.  Thanks so much!
