You’re invited to a special indoor screening event to debut the latest work from Living Springs entitled “A Reflecting Pool” along with an extra screenings of “Cleaning Day” and “Mr. Habitat.”  The screening event will be at UT’s Belo Center for New Media Moody Auditorium, BMC 2.106 (300 W. Dean Keeton St.) on Thursday, March 3, beginning at 7 pm.  Addition screening event details are posted here.
Debuting is “A Reflecting Pool,” which recounts the Springs’ experience from 1912 to 1962 through the memories of those who lived the history, including the little known race history of Barton Springs.  The 20-minute film includes archival photos from private collections and the Austin History Center.  Archival film from the Texas Archive of the Moving Image and original recreations are woven together to tell the story.  Rounding out the show will be “Cleaning Day,” an entertaining and enlightening behind-the-scenes look at the unique stewardship practices that contribute to making the Springs an amazing place for humans and endangered species alike.  This video features the Barton Springs lifeguards, salamander biologists and community volunteers from the Friends of Barton Springs Pool.  The final screening of the evening is “Mr. Habitat,” a poignant portrait of Bill Oliver who penned the anthem for Barton Springs, “Barton Spring Eternal.”
