September 7, 2017 — First Thursday Barton Springs Volunteer Cleaning!!!!

With this month’s jaunty boast, we taunt the faux floods here and invite folks to join Friends of Barton Springs Pool at next Thursday’s volunteer pool cleaning:

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
The Harvey Floods tried,
But couldn’t close our pool!

PS —  For something that rhymes with “Cleaning,” you can also attend the Living Springs Screening of “Wildlands” on Saturday, September 2 on the south side (7:30-8:30PM).  Hosted by Living Springs an Interactive Documentary about Barton Springs and Save Barton Creek Association, the 22-minute “Wildlands” documentary will showcase Austin’s water quality protection lands that Austin voters purchased to protect the aquifer. Learn about the significance and importance of preserving our aquifer lands. Swim before or after. Environmental groups will be on hand before the screening to talk about how you can get involved in community efforts to support the Springs, creeks and aquifer.

Barton Springs Volunteer Cleaning — August 3, 2017 (9am – 3pm)!!!!

In keeping with our recent tradition of sorts, here is the latest (and lamest) poetic invitation from Friends of Barton Springs Pool to join us at next Thursday’s volunteer pool cleaning:

There was once a place called Barton Springs Pool,
with water so clear and so deep and so cool,

Every first Thursday, Friends of Barton Springs Pool hosts three two-hour shifts, starting at 9:00, 11:00 and 1:00, so please join us this next Thursday (July 6) for a refreshing day of volunteer work to keep Barton Springs Pool the best that it can be. All volunteers are welcome to push-broom the pool bottom clean while we sing our happy tune as we help to put a shine on our jewel of Austin, Barton Springs Pool.

May 4, 2017 — A Spring Barton Springs Cleaning Volunteer Opportunity

Hark, the herald angels sing!
It’s time for all to clean the Springs!
So join us on the Fourth of May…
to scrub the algae scum away!

On Thursday, May 4 (9am to 3pm), volunteers can help clean Barton Springs by helping yank invasives, brush and clean the stair rails and sidewalls, pot plants (it’s not what it sounds like), aerate and weed the lawn and gardens, spread mulch, excavate rocks, shovel sediment, and move the debris to the compost area by rolling wheelbarrows outside the pool area. All this hard work helps contribute to the cleaning, well-being, and beautification of Barton Springs Pool. TacoDeli tacos and refreshments will be provided, but bring your own attitude!!!

Volunteers can choose from 3 two hour shifts, starting at 9am.  Please sign up for a shift at the SignUp link (http://signup.com/go/HxBnAms) to help spiff up the pool.

We are truly grateful for all the support from Austin Parks Foundation which makes our cleaning days possible, including generous grant support to buy tools and cleaning equipment.  Muchas thankyous @austinparksfdn!

Spring Cleaning Today (April 6)

Barton thanks you from the bottom of its Springs for all your help keeping the pool clean and in prime swimming condition! You can volunteer TODAY by coming down to help, starting at 9 am. Bring some friends and a scrubby attitude, and we’ll entertain you with the beautiful pool scenery, we’ll fortify your soul by getting your help to clean the Springs, and we’ll feed your tummy with yummy Tacodeli tacos.  JOIN US!!!!
