Oct. 5 — Last Volunteer Barton Springs Cleaning — EVER!!!!

OK, it’s not the last cleaning ever, but it is the season finale cleaning event for Barton Springs Pool this year.

For this last event, we’ll dispense with the red tape and shift sign-up rigamarole, but we’re expecting GREAT BIG flippity turnout from the good folks at Benchmark Recovery, Austin Youthworks,  and our stalwart supporters at Austin Beer Garden Brewing Company, so we look forward to seeing you at the Springs!

Volunteers can help clean Barton Springs Pool by push-brooming shallow end gunk and algae into the giant sucking vortex at the pool drain, scrubbing the pool side steps and wall, yanking weeds from the lovely lawn, removing /clipping/destroying/napalming Ligustrum from the (poison-ivy infested area behind the diving board), aerating and weed the gardens, spreading mulch, and other do-goodie type stuff to help tend the pool area. All this hard work helps contribute to the cleaning, well-being, and beautification of Barton Springs Pool.

Bring your happy and helpful attitude, and we’ll have pizza and snacks, refreshments, and one amazing immersive experience for giving a little back to Barton Springs!!!

September 7, 2017 — First Thursday Barton Springs Volunteer Cleaning!!!!

With this month’s jaunty boast, we taunt the faux floods here and invite folks to join Friends of Barton Springs Pool at next Thursday’s volunteer pool cleaning:

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
The Harvey Floods tried,
But couldn’t close our pool!

We’re expecting MASSIVE turnout from the good folks at C3 Presents, along with our stalwart supporters at Austin Beer Garden Brewing Company, so please join us at the Springs!  Also, please help us organize our upcoming activity by clicking the link below to learn more and sign up to help:

Thanks for making a difference!

PS —  For something that rhymes with “Cleaning,” you can also attend the Living Springs Screening of “Wildlands” on Saturday, September 2 on the south side (7:30-8:30PM).  Hosted by Living Springs an Interactive Documentary about Barton Springs and Save Barton Creek Association, the 22-minute “Wildlands” documentary will showcase Austin’s water quality protection lands that Austin voters purchased to protect the aquifer. Learn about the significance and importance of preserving our aquifer lands. Swim before or after. Environmental groups will be on hand before the screening to talk about how you can get involved in community efforts to support the Springs, creeks and aquifer.

Barton Springs Volunteer Cleaning — August 3, 2017 (9am – 3pm)!!!!

In keeping with our recent tradition of sorts, here is the latest (and lamest) poetic invitation from Friends of Barton Springs Pool to join us at next Thursday’s volunteer pool cleaning:

There was once a place called Barton Springs Pool,
with water so clear and so deep and so cool,
but to give back we must…
show up on the third of August.
to brush broom the city’s crown jewel!

OK, it ain’t high quality poetry, but you get what you pay for, and if this helps grab your attention, please help us organize our upcoming activity by clicking the link below to learn more and sign up to help. Thanks for making a difference!

On Thursday, May 4 (9am to 3pm), volunteers can help clean Barton Springs by helping yank invasives, brush and clean the stair rails and sidewalls, pot plants (it’s not what it sounds like), aerate and weed the lawn and gardens, spread mulch, excavate rocks, shovel sediment, and move the debris to the compost area by rolling wheelbarrows outside the pool area. All this hard work helps contribute to the cleaning, well-being, and beautification of Barton Springs Pool. TacoDeli tacos and refreshments will be provided, but bring your own attitude!!!

Volunteers can choose from 3 two hour shifts, starting at 9am.  Please sign up for a shift at the SignUp link (http://signup.com/go/HxBnAms) to help spiff up the pool.

We are truly grateful for all the support from Austin Parks Foundation which makes our cleaning days possible, including generous grant support to buy tools and cleaning equipment.  Muchas thankyous @austinparksfdn!
